As a result of his visit to the arena , it was obvious that Marcus had a keen interest in all aspects of the amphitheatre, and in particular the gladiators. It would seem appropriate, therefore, at this point in the story, to consider the significance that the events in the arena had for people in the Roman world - including the characters
